Morrison Springs?

Just wondering if anyone could tell me if Morrison Spring has a dive shop on location so I could rent an air tank?

Thanks,
Michael

Nope. Morrison is a state park open from dawn until sunset. No dive shop. Just a mud/sand parking lot.

Nearest dive shop is Vortex Springs. It's about 15 minutes north of Morrison, so close enough if you need a rental tank.

Other than that, you've got to drive to Panama City or Destin, both of which are easily 45minutes to an hour drive away.

I'm not sure of Vortex's policy on rentals since it's a commercial dive site. Does anyone know if you can take rental tanks off site?

yep..... been there... done that. (or actually with someone that did)

I think they charge an extra buck or two for rentals or air fills for "off site divers" though since you aren't paying admission to Vortex. It's pretty common for folks diving Morrison, Cypress, etc to get rentals at Vortex and take them offsite.

EDIT: On 2nd thought, I'd call them and check first.

Since we've picked up gear for offsite use, they have sold the operation and changed management. The new management might have different rules. I'd bet they still allow it though as most dive shops don't turn down a dollar of rental profit often.

Just rent 3 or 4 tanks from your lds and then get air fills from Vortex.

FYI all. According to a thread on Scubaboard, Morrison is/will be closed for construction until spring or summer. FYI.

Construction began 10 days ago. You can see photos of it on SB. Signs have been posted. Large wooded areas have been cleared and backhoes have graded the land. Frames have been built for a boardwalk. There is a barge with a crane on it in the water.
