shall be diving on a liveaboard - MV Dolphin Queen at Similians, Richlieu Rock, Koh Tachai, Koh bon.

We did a 4 day liveaboard with West Coast Dive (Phuket). Went to the same sites. It was great. The vis was not as good as Cozumel but it was still worth the trip. The MV Dolphin Queen deck layout looks good.

I'm going to Thailand about a week after you, so I can't answer your question. Be sure to do a trip report when you return, though!

I'll be diving sites around Phuket, however, as I don't have time for a liveaboard and my wife is not a boat person so it's day trips only for me...

I was there in May of 2006 and would go to the Similan again. The visibility was awesome. Really good dive sites...but no whale sharks. :-(

In the similan there were 2 sites with a lot of current. Sorry dont remember the name of them.

One you had to go down using the line. My buddy panicked while going down and he decided to surface. You should have seen his heart rate monitor on his dive computer. I continue the dive and at the bottom it was awesome. You had to dive in between rocks to hide from the current.

Another site had currents as well and the dive master told us in advance just to follow the current and the boat would pick us up.

All excellent dives.
