Kauai

I'm heading to Kauai for 2 weeks in February and want to get my advanced diver cert. as well as my nitrox cert. Has anyone had any experiences with the dive operators there? I'm leaning towards Bubbles below as the have been the most responsive to my email queries.

Bubbles Below = The Bomb. Linda Marsh and crew are awesome. They really know how to take care of you, above and below water. Make sure you hit Ni'Ihau, and ask her to make you "Diesel Pizza". Tell her Big Jason from Texas sent you.

No one's going to Ni'ihau in February. Kauai takes a pounding from winter swells so even most of the north shore is undivable then. And the trek across to Ni'ihau would be brutal.

A good plan would be to stay on the south side as that's where you'll likely be diving. Unless you want to drive 30-45mins. daily from Princeville.

From Bubble's Below's webpage:
  • Ni'ihau/Lehua Crater - During the months of May thru Sept. the north and west swells which pound the Hawaiian north shores subside. This enables us to travel to Niihau, Lehua Crater and also Mana Crack on the northwestern shores of Kauai

Seasport Divers, Kauai

You might also consider Seasport Divers. Great boat - brand new rental gear. They are on the south side of the island. Ask to see Sheraton Caverns; so many green sea turtles you won't believe it.

My wife and I dove with Bubbles Below and couldn't have been happier. We've been all over the world and they were the best operator we've been with --- bar none.

They were supportive of the newer divers but not overbearing to those of us who were more experienced. We did stick with the divemasters for most dives though. Each dive was a learning experience and we'd discuss the things and the animal behaviour we'd seen. We learned a lot about Hawaiian sea life

Good luck.
