Well, I finally got around to trying that number today - that was kind of interesting.
The phone number on the internet (that I listed in the thread) is for the powerplant. It doesn't sound like they have anyone who manages what kind of recreational activities are allowed on the lake (or at least the fella I spoke with had no idea of any). Bubbles - maybe you'll have better luck with your contact. If push comes to shove, I'm not opposed to showing up with gear with someone and seeing if we get chased off. However, as it is a power plant lake, It would be better to know before hand if my testicles were going to glow after diving that water.

so I dug around a bit more and found an old fact sheet on the lake...
Not really deep, average depth 28ft, but I've had fun in less . Appearantly there is a warm water outlet of some kind, however from the shore I noted on another website it's a 1.25 mile walk from where you can park. It is bouyied off, but I'm betting you'll have to have a few scuffles with fisherman over getting space over there (most of these guys will have never seen a dive flag before).SURFACE ACRES: 5,400 AVG DEPTH: (ft)28 LOCATION: 15 miles south of Ponca City COUNTY: Pawnee, and Noble DATE IMPOUNDED:1976 OPERATOR: OG & E PHONE: 918/762-7441 PRIMARY USES: Cooling reservoir for coal fired electric generating plant and recreation PUBLIC USE FACILITIES: Boat ramps, picnic tables, restrooms and swimming beach. No over night camping. Public access provided to heated water discharge area east on county road off Highway 177.

I've emailed my contact, but its a big company and it may take some time to find the right person to speak with. By reputation I understand them to be a pretty reasonable company that promote its community relations. Hopefully we can come to some agreement with them.

It'd be great if that lake were a dive spot, it's just right down the road from me. It is a power supply lake, the power plant is a coal fired plant. I don't know about the drinking water issue, if it does provide drinking water it's only to the OG&E plant. I know they don't allow boats in the discharge channel, and it is quite a walk from the parking spot. Most of the lake looks very clear from above water, but I've never dove or snorkeled it. There is, or used to be, ALOT of milfoil in the lake, and I think zebra mussels have started showing up there as well, so that's something to think about with taking gear between there and other water. I'd love it if people started diving that lake, I can usually make it there with no problems. I'd be happy to go scout it out a little, but it's getting pretty chilly. It may have a warm water discharge, but it's not that warm!
