Good question, I'm also interested in underwater camera but I'm a bit confused. Any suggestions on important features for newbies and what not would be great.

I was thinking about a Canon SD870IS, as it has a wide angle lens. Get a Canon case for it. While you can use the built in flash, if you are serious about your pictures you really need an external flash to go along with the camera.

Thanks guys for the info. I hope to make a decision real soon. Is it worth taking the underwater photographer class? Not sure if I will take it or not.

Depends on the instructor. If he/she is good, then yes. Otherwise, your local book store should have a couple books on underwater photography.

Also, I'd advise against SeaLife. A lot of money for not a lot of camera...

I took it a few months ago ... if you don't know anything about underwater photography, it's a good introduction.
