These are two of my favorites:

Older, deals with film. Concepts are basically the same. Great book on basic ideas and understanding of composition.

Easy to understand and well written. Deals with basic up to semi-advanced.

I can vouch for this one - one of my absolute favorites. Very comprehensive discussion about how to take all the major shots (close focus wide angle, wide angle, silhouettes, macro, divers, wrecks, etc) - with multiple examples (great photos) of each type discussing technique, settings, etc. Fully updated for digital - gaurantee you won't be disappointed.

The Jim Church composition book is also a classic - applies equally to digital as well as film (although I lost mine in my last move ).
