Ikelite Pro-V8 LED
Has anyone used this light?
IKELITE Pro-V8 LED Video Light the price seems much lower ($250) than other lights and I was wondering what the drawback is? I know it is not rechargable, and I noticed it is only a 45 degree beam, does that contribute to the lower price?

If the ikelite is 350 lumens
the top dog is 600 (I think per each light??), then this set has a total of 1200, is this powerful enough? (sorry if it is a dumb question, I am still researching for my first camcorder) Top Dawg Video Lights reviews and discounts, Backscatter

Can I use a video light to take photos? Can I use Ikelite pro-v8 video light as a strobe substitute used for taking photos? I think this light is not strong---15 watts only, but wouldn’t it be enough light for taking photos? When I went night diving, people were flashing on a subject while I took pictures without using a flash. The pictures seem okay. Does the flash from a strobe scare away the underwater wildlife like fishes and turtles?
For Ikelite 100w suggested earlier, isn't that the color of the light emission is yellow like an incandescent bulb? Wouldn't the light effect be like taking photos or video under an incandescent bulb on land and not white like a sun since it is not LED or HID? I have a sony P200 (manual setting capable) with an ikelite housing and an ikelite tray. |

here is a sample video of me using the video lights: Night dive - lighting test on Vimeo this is on a night dive. You can see the color is good, rich reds and greens and blues. can you use it for photo? I guess you could but it is $600+ and the battery is only good for 1 hour, then must recharge for 3-4 hours. I don't think that is what you want for photos. I would get one of the Ikelite strobes made for still photo, then you can swap out rechargeable batteries and keep diving. Thanks Robin. There's not so much customer reviews about the Ikelite video lights out there. I prefer Ikelite because I have their housing, tray and handle. It's a reliable brand, but I don't think I will get one of their video lights.
The pro-lite 3 battery that costs $260+ each eats up too much battery life (lasts 25 mins and recharge time is 5 hrs). The other LED pro-v8 doesnt have enough lumen, 350. I think I will get a Fisheye Fix LED1000dx instead. For $599, you get 1000 lumen for 81 minutes, 2hr recharcharge time, and an adjustible light intensity for video light or aiming light use. Reef Photo & Video!, The Underwater Photo Pros Fisheye FIX light HG20DX compare to Fisheye FIX LED1000dx... Fisheye FIX LED500DX 500 Lumen LED Focus Light [fix.500.led] - $299.99 : Reef Photo & Video!, The Underwater Photo Pros I've read somewhere that Fisheye Fix has 80 degree light angle pro-lite 3 has 100. It is really a great light if it doesn't have flooding problems. I have second thoughts about Fisheye Fix lights after reading this Fisheye Fix Mini LED --- Bad Review - Wetpixel :: Underwater Photography Forums Fisheye Fix Light HG20DX flooding problems - Wetpixel :: Underwater Photography Forums I think I'll stick with Ikelite video lights. Does anyone has an underwater review video for Ikelite Pro V-8? How does it compare to pro-lite 3 or other video lights? Last edited by palatulog : 07-02-2009 at 06:19 AM. |
