Video Editing Software

I was looking to purchase some video editing software and from what I see the Pinacle Ultimate version 12.0 looks pretty nice. There's some pretty good deals on Ebay and I was wondering if anyone has experience using the product. Pros/Cons?

I wish I could afford a MAC right now, but I don't see it happening anytime soon.

I use Pinnacle v.12 Ultimate and love it. I think it is very user friendly. Brand new on Amazon it is around $100. I never ever buy used software as the online registration is needed to activate it. I am pretty sure that is true with Pinnacle.

check out my videos...

Thanks Robin for helping me with my purchasing decision. I checked out your site and there's some really cool stuff on it. I can't wait to shoot some underwater video in Cozumel next month. Approximately how much time do you spend editing one of your trips into something fun and viewable?

Time allocation: Video is 10% underwater, and 90% topside in front of computer. For a 3-5 minute video, expect to spend 4-8 hours.

Are you using HD? If you are, make sure your home computer is capable of driving the software and those huge files. I had to upgrade my 3yr old computer in order to do those HD videos. I got a quad-core with tons of memory and disk space for around $1100. So that means my upgrade to HD this year was : $1100 for computer, $120 for software, $900 for housing, and $1100 for camcorder, larger battery and wall charger.

Quite the expensive upgrade for you! I'm using a Sony HDSR-1 and my computer I purchased beginning of last year seems to be able able to handle it. All I've used so far is the cheesey Sony software that came with the camera. I'm running 4gigs of ram and it seems to drag pretty good. May have to bump that up a bit once I start using this program. i feel your pain since I just purchased a housing, wide angle and attaching hardware for my Light Cannon. In the end it will be well worth it though!

I use Sony Vegas 9 for editing. It comes with DVD Architect. Lots of power for a small price.

I've used Pinnacle...had some problems with it.
Now using Adobe Premiere Elements....have problems with it too.

I just have problems....there should be a very, very simple editing tool out there by now so codecs, format, file types, length, resolution and length of video don't matter...and neither does the amount of RAM or memory.
(In my dreams, I know.)
