    Novice diver here- hello!

Hey everyone! I'm Gary and I'm currently living in Northern California. I'm certified AOW, but haves less than 20 dives under my belt. I just dove coldwater for the first time up here in Monterey, and need some new gear. I spent awhile looking for a good scuba forum, and I think I found a good one. I had a question for the ST community about order overing the phone with ST. I need to get a mask, fins, snorkel, boots, gloves, and bag. Does Scubatoys offer package discounts over the phone? I'm looking forward to doing business with them after reading all the great things in this forum.

    Cheers!

    gloves?

I was wondering what thickness gloves are recommended for diving in Northern California, I rented a pair last time, but do not remember how thick they were. I think at least 5 mm would be the minimum.

    Welcome to ScubaToy's!

As for glove thickness, it's personal thing. I'd go with the 3mm mainly because I prefer dexterity over absolute warmth. That being said, Ive heard some of the more high end gloves can provide both. Guess it depends on your wallet size?

Like everyone else: Welcome to the forum. Scuba Toys is a great place. Like Davetowz said, let them know you're a forum member (= 10% off) As for gloves, Monterey way, I used 3mm but my hands were a little cold but I don't mind it as I have a good cold tolerance. 5mm may be the way to go, but you do definitely lose some dexterity.

I once saved a man in Wichita just to watch him dive...(inventor)

Welcome, this is a friendly forum, you can ask just about anything and get good answers without flaming.

There is no better place to shop than Scuba Toys. I wish that I lived close enough to shop in person.

    Hey, welcome.

On the topic of gloves. In my opinion, if you are looking for some warm gloves but still have some dexterity, have a look at waterproof brand gloves. I dive a set of their 5mm gloves and have way more dexterity with them then any other glove i have used in the same size.

I do believe that ST is a waterproof dealer so they may be able to help out.

    Blue waters!
