Just recently came across Scubaboard which led me to SB2 then to here. I have been certified for 13 years or so, but its been mostly a few dives every 5 years or so on vacations.

Now my wife just got certified and we are in the planning stages for a trip to the upper Keys in august to dive for several days.

I have yet to purchase anything from scubatoys, but they are bookmarked in my favorites as I am researching equipment purchases for my wife and I.

Buy good quality gear, however define what you're going to be doing before getting that gear.

Thats what the research is for. We will probably both be happy diving recreationally - a trip once or twice a year with possibly a few trips sprinkled in to the local quarry. The wife is still not fond of the quarry where she got certified, but may warm up to the idea of diving more often (even there) once she has seen what its like in the ocean.

Planning on renting equipment down in the Keys since we do not have the money to spend on 2 sets right now.

No - thats about 5 hours away (southwest corner of Missouri) and the first time I have heard of it - looks like a nice place.

We have been to www.mermetsprings.com in Southern Illinois just south of Vienna on Highway 45. Thats where my wife did her open water dives. Its a good place to dive and to see the Spoonbills is pretty cool.
