45 YO rookie / 10 YO son from Georgia
Hey everyone.
I've been wanting to dive for a while, but never thought I'd get around to it. I've been snorkeling some with my kids, and I finally decided to take my son to the local dive shop and try the "discover scuba" with him. He seemed comfortable with it and wanted to try, so at 45, I'm finally ready to do some diving. I know it can be an expensive hobby, and I should be saving for college, but If I wait for that, I'll be 60, and it probably won't happen - so here we go. We've done the classroom work and the confined dives. I wasn't sure if I could do the 10 minute water tread, and it WAS tough for me to get through. We go down to Crystal River, FL in 2 weeks to do our open water dives. We have a cruise booked for October with stops in the Caymans and Cozumel (we've snorkeled both) and hope to do some diving there. Anyway, I've heard lots of good things about scubatoys. I stopped by to see what they had and I'm getting a couple of dry snorkels and some fins, both from the "specials" section. I look forward to picking up some tips from the boards here. later, Doug |

Welcome, I was certified 3 years ago at 43, along with my then 12yr old. He and I just finished our AOW and Rescue, in preparation for my 10 yr old daughter who wishes to get certified this summer.
