Well I discovered ST quite by accident while stuck aboard the USS Essex heading for Australia. After spending many enjoyable hours reading through the forums I have finally joined up. I got my OW certification while stationed in Okinawa, Japan in August 2005 and have been hooked ever since. I'm now a rescue diver with EAN, Underwater Navigator, Boat, and Night Diver certifications. I plan on getting my Divemaster certification when I head back to Okinawa this summer. I hope I am able to add some meaningful contributions to the forum.

Geez, so many people seem to do their OW in Okinawa. Is it a really nice dive area or just a very common place to be stationed?

Okinawa just has so many quality dive spots available right off shore that getting certified makes sense. Plus the fact that you can do your OW there for about $200 makes it hard to pass up.
