Texas Again?
I know, another from from Texas...
![]() My wife and I actually just got certified last week. Prior to that, someone probably would have described us "resort-course veterans." So, we finally decided to take the big step to do it the right way. And we could not be more excited about it! Note: I'm sure I'm going to ask some stupid questions along the way…so, I offer my apologies ahead of time. percussionist1 |

Although I am not familiar with what PADI says is the official curriculum for resort courses, this is what we did...
We took our first resort course when we stayed at the The Iberostar Cozumel. It was put on by a local shop called Dressel Divers (they are affiliated with Iberostar Resorts). It basically consisted of about a 1-hour classroom session and a 2-hour pool session. Then you go on your dives (2). The material covered is almost verbatim compared to what is covered in the first 1 1/2 chapters of the PADI Open Water Diver Manual. We talked about everything from basic equalization techniques, to full mask clearing. During our dives, we went to 35-ft and 45-ft depths (which is a little deeper than your are supposed to go apparently). We were in a group of 4 "newbies" and an instructor. The instructor kept an eye on us the ENTIRE time. She was great! Our instructor handled most of what I now know to be standard procedure for a diver, without us knowing it. Again, it was REALLY GREAT! It is why my wife and I eventually got our full certifications. I highly recommend if you know someone that is interested in possibly getting an Open Water Certification some day, or if someone is just interested in creating some SPECIAL memories during a vacation. Let me know if you have any more questions... Dressel Divers Club Percussionist1 |
