Smile Another new diver from NJ

Howdy! Been lurking for a while but never posted.

Open water certified last June, nitrox, peak performance for more practice, and then I spoiled myself for life by doing a week on the Turks and Caicos Explorer II last September. What a trip!

Now I'm planning to do my AOW this year, and after looking at how much I was going to plunk down for a 7mm wetsuit for Dutch Springs, saw the Nex-Gen drysuit here at ST and decided to go eco-dry instead.

~NOW~ I see in a thread that forum members get a 10% discount??

Doh! *Waaaaaaaaaah!*

Thanks!

And due to my ST purchase of a new Bare Nex-Gen, drysuit course first!

I had just about given up on anyone answering..... *sniffing pits* I wasn't sure if I managed to post at a bad time, or a wrong day!

Welcome fellow NJ diver! I haven't had the pleasure of doing any warm water diving yet. Spent a good deal of time at Dutch Springs doing OW and AOW. Have a great time with you AOW (and Dry Suit) class!

Do you have to dive with a dry suit in NJ? What are some popular dive sites there as well? thanks!

Well, I'm certainly no expert yet. But around here, most dive at Dutch Springs for training and refreshers, and many I believe many also dive the multitude of wrecks off the Jersey Coast in the Atlantic. That's why most use dry suits, although a 7mm will work as well.

Welcome to the board. I'm NJ resident that has not yet dove NJ, not even Dutch Springs yet. I am looking forward to doing some local diving this summer.

7mm suit all year round or can you get by with a 5mm in the summer?

Again, I'm not the one to ask (I have yet to dive off the coast). However, at Dutch Springs (and probably - no, almost certainly off the coast) the surface 20-30 feet might warm up to the 70's, but once below the thermocline..... brrrrrrrrrr!
