Hello Divers. I'm having problems clearing my ears.

I went to Catalina to attempt my first boat dive(Casino Pt). Sad to say it didnt last long. As soon as I descended to approximatley 8 ft, I began to feel a squeeze in my ears. After repeatedly trying to clear early and often, ascend and then go back down, my dive ended shortly thereafter. Wondering if anyone has had this problem and what might be the cause? Thanks.

I had the same thing on the second to the last dive before my check-out dive. I had no problems with any of the other dives so the squeeze was a shock... I was at about 8ft (while I've been to 25 before) but I coudln't go any lower w/o it being unbearable. I ascended about 2 feet and it was better but I was basically done for the day and in pain. On my checkout dive, I had problems again but it started at about 4ft...my DM said that if i just hold at the same level for a while, it should clear and eventually, it did and I was somewhat fine the rest of the dive. Just don't push yourself because your body will tell you when it's reached it's max... Now, I've been diving every weekend and have had no problems.... sorry.. apparently i'm a chatty cathy today!

During "alergy season" I use the 12 hour sudafed or equivalent. Were you congested the day that this happened?
