Hello from East Tennessee

Hello. I am very new to diving. I have never done anything diving related. THe closest I have ever came was snorkling but never scuba. I work for an EMS company in Johnson City, TN and will be taking a swiftwater class in September and hope to be able to take a diving class for rescue diving here for my job and was wanting a few helpful hints on some equipment I should purchase such as good priced but still good quality equipment to start out with. Any help would be greatly appreciated.,
Thanks,
Jason

Wow! A swiftwater class sounds like fun. I'm going to pass on equipment recommendations because I'm not really sure what special gear would be needed for swiftwater. Welcome to the board. Let us know how the swiftwater class goes.

Welcome to the board. Wait til you get certified and gain some experience and basic gear knowledge before starting your gear search. The equipment needed will also be largely dependent on the type of work being conducted..Just practice practice for now!

I'd suggest doing a lot of reading on equipment, buy name brands and make sure you can get it serviced where you dive, or ship it off and make sure they have a good turn a round time.

You've got some time to burn here, no use getting in too big a rush.
