Hi
Hi,
i have been lurking around the forums for a while now, trying to read and absorb as much as possible. I am finally going to take my open water course when we go to Roatan in January. I have a few questions though. Some of our local dive shops that i have talked to suggest it is best to take the course with your own equipment (regs, octo, bcd and comp/guage), and other shops say you should wait and try some different rental equipment to see what you like. What does everyone on here think? I was thinking of picking up some used equipment from Scubatoys as i see they have a few good deals. Has anyone ever dived with TGI Diving at the Henry Morgan resort in Roatan? Any suggestions for my upcoming course? thanks |

Welcome to the ST forums!!!
IMHO I would recommend renting at least a few different setups and/or borrowing from other local divers to get an idea of how things work for you personally before sinking a bunch of money into gear that may just not work for you. Also, have you considered getting certified before taking your trip so that you could spend more time enjoying Roatan's diving rather than doing class work and studying? Keep in mind I don't really have that much experience myself, BUT I have already seen that I've maybe wasted some money on things that just dont suit me. |
