New From Milwaukee
How is it going? My name is Mike and I am kind of new to Scuba and brand new to the forum. Back in College I took a Scuba class but never got OW certified. Last week I did some diving in Mexico and it inspired me to get certified and start diving locally.
My dive experience in Mexico last week was actually kind of interesting because I completely ran out of air while underwater. We were only 30-40 ft down so it wasn't a big deal but it was definitely unexpected. My being 6'5" and 225 probably contributed to the problem although he probably could of gave me a more full tank. I think we were just lucky that it happened to me and not the three other complete newbies that were on the excursion with only 15 minutes of pool experience. It was also a good thing that I kept an eye on my air gauge and noticed that it was dropping kind of rapidly. The DM swam over to me a few minutes before and checked my air and gave me the thumbs up. I figured that he was the expert so I trusted him that I should be fine. Then it started to go into the red and I thought that maybe he had better take another gander. When he did his eyes got all bugged out and he pointed towards the rope to go back up to the boat. About when we got to the rope I completely ran out of air, no more to suck in at all and I had to signal that I was out. I grabbed his spare and we went up. After we got onto the boat the only thing he said was that it was the first time that had happened to him. After we got back the dive shack he didn't seem to want to talk much so we just left... It was definitely an eye opening first dive in open water! Even with that happening I am hooked and can't wait to do it again! |
