Hi, from the Netherlands

Hi fellow divers,

My name is Niels, and I am from the little country of the Netherlands. I am eighteen years old and a PADI Divemaster. Setting about to obtain my IDC/IE in August this year.

I am a sympathizer of the DIR/GUE way of diving, but have not (yet/entirely) developed myself, my equipment and diving education in that way.

I have the ambition to become an officer in the Royal Netherlands Marine Corps. However, since I obtain for the start of the program in August 2010, I have almost a year to do something else. I would love to teach scuba-diving on some kind of a bounty-island in the period between September/October 2009 and July 2010.

Therefore, I am orientating a little on forums other than the Dutch ones, hoping that you can provide me a little more information in what and about on teaching/working abroad.

So, if you have any recommendations, tips, tricks, stories or whatsoever, I keep myself recommended.

Dive safely,

Niels

Hoi, Neils:

An easy way for a Dutchman to get dive experience would be to work in Bonaire. The other Dutch Caribbean islands may also hold opportunities.

I hope that the plan with the Marines works out for you (they also get to spend some time in the Caribbean). I recall playing a friendly against the Marines serving on the Pelikaan, I think. During the match, I accidentally kicked one of the boys in the back of the leg. We both knew it was an accident. I said "sorry, Man." He said, Don't worry, football is war."

Good luck.
