Newbie with Hy-Mark Cylinders

Hello, I am Jason Franklin the VP/General Manager at Hy-Mark Cylinders. My wife and I are both recreational divers. I developed our scuba product line in 2004. Hence then we have made several design changes to achieve great buoyancy characteristics. I am looking for feedback regarding our scuba tanks. I am hoping to learn more about what the dive community is looking for in aluminum scuba tanks. If you have had the opportunity to test or use a Hy-Mark scuba tank please feel free to let me know what you think. I come from an engineer background and would love to make changes in our tank’s design to help achieve exactly what divers are requesting.
Cheers,
Jason

Hi Jason!

At first I thought you were a new diver who purchased a couple of Hy-mark cylinders...

Welcome.

Personally, I don't have one but I know a few members here made a group purchase recently. Now, if you wanted to send me one to do product testing...

I am happy that you have oined the forum. I will definitely give Hy-mark a go when I can get a new tank.

A few things I can say Iwould like to see is a true 80 cu ft. AL80 Luxfer is 77.4 and catilina is 77.8 A neutral empty is nice if it can be engineered to weigh less than a steel 130. I'm not sure if I'd be comfortable with a HP (3442 psi) AL though. So I'd say a true 80 would be my highest preference.

Welcome to the forum, Jason.

I am just in the process of getting a hy-mark cylinder. I will let you know what I think of it relative to luxfer and catalina.

Welcome aboard Jason! I have 4 Hy-Marks. I'm still fairly new to diving so I can't really provide much input at this time but I will be happy to share something when I have it.

Frank,

I would like a Alum. Tank with as close to 0 buoyancy empty as you can manage. A little negitive is better (slight)
The problem allot of people have with alum. tanks is the positive buoyancy
when empty.
Not sure is possoible with the laws/DOT ect ect.....But the dream
alum. tank to me would be

100 size
negative buoyancy empty
3000++ psi
Figure out a legal way to get us a little bit of over fill and your golden.
I was just 5 mins ago looking at specs for your 40's for a duel setup, but dont know how positive they are empty??????
If they aren't to positive, ill buy 2 next week.
Maybe find some TOP quality valves and create a vip alum tank with the good stuff top to bottom. I think there would be a market for that.
You got a step up on the others with your nice natural finishes.
Need a traveling sales person to saturate the FL market with your tanks
starting Aug 1st? Im your man! Let me know.

I would like to see a tank about 18" tall, that can hold about 500cf of air , but that will never happen, seriously though, I would like to see a cylinder that is slightly negative when empty, the same size as a al80 but that is a HP+ tank that holds like 100cf (as I am a air hog..) right now, i have a luxfur NB AL80 and I like it, but if I want to stay down with other divers I have to sling a 19cf tank and switch to it towards the end of a dive.
