New Diver

Hi! I just became OW certified. I need lots of practice and want to get in the water again now that my lessons are over. But my buddy and I are too new to go it alone. Any suggestions on how to get some dives in with experienced divers?

Hello cfw218 and welcome to ST.

Talk to your LDS and see if there is any scuba clubs for you to join in your area. That will be a good place to get to know some other divers that can go out with you and your buddy.

That is EXACTLY the thing to do :-) You've got your certification, now go diving! Welcome to the sport, you're going to love it :-)

Like the others I also suggest checking your LDS first. Also look around and see if there is a scuba club in your are. Depending on the size of the club, at a minimum you will find people who love the sport and are always looking to share that with others. I think most clubs will provide a forum for meeting other divers to dive with, organize trips, and in some cases even have some added benefits. I pay a $100 a year dues in my club and I get unlimited use of the clubs tanks and free air. I've already made that back in what I would have paid to rent tanks. By the end of my 12 months I expect that I will save what I would have paid for air if I had my own tanks! :-) As someone else mentioned you may be able to find someone in the forum from your area too. Good luck!

hey guys , new to the forum but not to diving been diving since 94. just want to bring up a subject, I have overheard on several occasions while
on dive boats and in scuba shops here in Key Largo, suprising bad attitudes regarding dive safety from veteran divers, to all you new divers
make sure you pay attension to your dive instructors and after you finish
your classes push yourself to further your diving education, and concentrate on self rescue, when ever your in the water mentally practice how to safely get out of emergencies, this will better prepare you for when and if it does happen. Remember MURPHY's law! ( if you dont know Murphys law it states if anything could go wrong it will go wrong. I had a shark bite through my seond stage hose that wasentangled in his mouth
thanks to my spare air Im here typing this message

WOW!!! I would love to hear the rest of this story! I think you should post it under "Scuba Stories, Comments, & Questions that don't fit elsewhere" I'm sure this is a great story ;-)

Welcome to ST cfw218! The previous posters said exactly what I was going to say about finding people to dive with. One other thought would be maybe to hire your DM from your class. Good luck!
