Introduction
Hello there. I decided to learn to dive about 4 years ago ... snorkeling in Desolation Sound north of Vancouver, BC. There is something about sea-urchins the size of your head, with salmon flitting in and out of kelp fronds.
Yes, the water was cold. And I was only wearing a shorty. But I was absolutely hooked. So now I'm ow certified -- went to Belize in June to do it, and am looking forward to getting wet a lot. Except that there aren't a lot of places to dive in Maryland/DC. On the equipment front: If it works well I'll try it. I used to swim masters a lot, and once you're in the water it really all comes down to streamlining and technique. I'm pretty surprised that less attention is paid to streamlining in scuba than I would have expected. Take your typical BC ... it has nightmarish drag. And why don't wetsuits use any of the new swimming materials to cut down on water resistance? And don't get me started on fin design... |
