Welcome to the board, Little John! There's no single answer to your questions. It all depends on what you like and what works for you. Personally, I like cave diving and my favorite BCD right now is the Nomad (a sidemount rig). That doesn't mean that will work for you, though. Living in East Florida, you have some great diving right there. Check out the reefs in Ft. Lauderdale. Shallow at 15' and only 100 yards from the beach. You can spend hours there just watching the aquatic life interacting. And it's cheap! It costs you a tank of air and a day at the beach!

Let me know if you're ever heading up to North Florida and we'll do some spring diving.
