Okie noob

I've been lurking for a couple of days and finally decided to intro myself so I won't feel so weird when/if I jump in on threads throughout the board.
My name (just in case my SN was a bit too subtle ) is Mandie. I live in Oklahoma and just got my OW cert last month. My DH and I will be going to Cozumel in May 08 and plan to get our AOW some time late next summer.

You didn't say where in Okie you were, but a few of us Texas Swamp Divers dive at Lake Murray and BrokenBow, you are are welcome to join us and become a swamper! I know when I was first certified, I was fortunate to be able to dive with quite a few different divers with lots of experience. It really made the "learning curve" alot less intimidating. Now, all of those guys are some of my good friends and we dive as much as we can all get together. What a lucky dude I am!!

Hey Mandie welcome to the forum. You didn't say what prt of the state you are in. If you are in the Tulsa area here is a dive club we have there The Tulsa Scuba Meetup Group (Tulsa, OK) - Meetup.com There is also a brand new club in the OKC area called Dirty Water Divers Society. Just do a search on this board. I think they even have their own area on the board.

Welcome to the board Mandie. Well since everyone else gave you their pitch I guess I can give you mine as well. If you happen to be in the Oklahoma city area, we are starting a dive club and you are welcome to join and dive with us. We will be planning dives to some of the local lakes in the near future. You can visit our forum on scubatoys here:

Or visit our webpage here:

Dirty Water Dive Society

Again welcome.

Hmm, somehow the title swamper doesn't really give me warm fuzzies We live near Stillwater. I've actually got a built in dive buddy, DH is also certified and is on here as well(DRhodes) but didn't post an intro, guess he gets a spankin' for that. I'm guessing from your description that the viz is pretty bad in Murray and Broken Bow??

My DH joined the group already and has us down as maybe for your meet next week. We're hoping to make it over.

Ha, w/3 crumbsnatchers I'd have to get a fab part-time job in order to pay for the child care and still have enough left over to but shiny stuff.

Again welcome.
Never pass up an opportunity to pitch your new group. We'll probably try to keep up w/your group as well since we're pretty much half way between OKC and Tulsa.

Thanks all for the warm welcome. I've already read about several things to try and even a few things to avoid thanks to Puffer

Hmm, not sure why but the board ate my really long multi-quote response so I'll just summarize. We live near Stillwater. I too got my OW at Beaver Lake and man was that water cold, although it was warmer than the air temp!
DH joined the meet-up in Tulsa and as of today we're a maybe, hope we'll be able to make it.
We'll likely join the DWDS club as well since we're about half way between OKC and Tulsa.

Thanks all for the warm welcome. I've already read about a few things to try as well as a few to avoid thanks to Puffer
