Hi from snowy MD!
With yesterday's snow storm, I needed something to cheer me up
![]() and thinking about diving will definitely do the trick! My husband and I have been certified for about 2 1/2 years now. We got our certification with Columbia Scuba here in MD. We did our checkout dives in Millbrook quarry in VA, where the water was a balmy 46 degrees! My proudest accomplishment is getting through those dives, in a wetsuit!! Now I only dive in water 75 degrees and up. I've been on dive trips to St. Vincent & the Grenadines, Turks & Caicos, and the BVI's so far. I absoultely loved SVG and the BVIs, but did not like TCI at all - too crowded and "Americanized" for my tastes. I'm hoping to get some advice from you guys for my next trip in June 2008 - I'm considering Belize, Little Cayman/Cayman Brac, and Roatan so far. |

Hello and welcome to the board. 46 degrees on a checkout dive. Gotta give you a great job on that one. Haven't been in water below 50 in a wetsuit yet. Stay here a while, warm up from the snow and talk a little scuba with us.

Hi from Snowy Conifer, CO... Yup, I feel your pain, 6" of snow yesterday, and the lows in the single digits at night.
You may want to consider Cozumel. It's seems too obvious to be great diving, but it is. Hawaii is also an interested destination. I have not been, but it's different from the Caribbean diving with a lot of marine life not found anywhere else in the world. I have not done Belize, but I hear it's wonderful. You will want to find a good DiveOp and discuss gear rental on the boards. I've have read bad things about some dive Ops , and rental gear condition (like dangerous) in Belize. Many Ops are also guilty of taking newly certified OW divers to Blue hole, and diving to 150'. You will want to consider if you are comfortable with that depth if you do go to Belize as many Ops are not going to restrict anyone from doing it. Have fun with your decision, and the vacation!
