Hi From Cold Water Canada!

Hi everybody!

My name is Mark, and I live in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada where it is currently -30 degrees Celsius (-22 degrees F for you Yanks!).

I got certified (PADI) about five years ago in British Columbia, but didn't really dive much after that as I made the incorrect assumption that people don't dive in Manitoba. I did a few dives in Cuba a couple of years ago and then just discovered recently that there is indeed an active dive community in Manitoba. It's mostly cold, dark, lake diving, but still fun (apparently) nonetheless.

So... instead of renting equipment for a trip to Maui (next week!!!), I purchased my own SCUBA gear. I anticipate doing as much diving as possible this summer at West Hawk Lake (where 90% of Manitoba diving occurs) and might even do some ice diving this winter!

I found ScubaToys through ScubaBoard, and everybody seems to love you guys. So... I'm thrilled that I have the opportunity to join your forum!

Regards,

Mark Duddridge

Welcome, eh! The hardest part about diving up here is cutting a hole in the ice. Hopefully ST will start selling augers for us Canadians!

OOOoooo.. Mark I can so relate! Spend eight yrs living in Kenora and my daughter was born in Winterpeg. Moved to the "banana belt" of the province but still no diving for me till spring. Good thing we are off to Lauderdale next week and Roatan in Feb. I already have the jitters from diving withdrawl. Welcome to the board..from one cold Canuk to another!

Welcome Mark. And I thought it was cold here. 30 degrees F must seem warm to what you are experiencing. Glad to have you here. Stay warm.

Hi! Yep, ST is great! Maybe we'll see you out at WH this summer or maybe an ice dive in the new year?

Welcome Mark. I am from Calgary Alberta. I jointed this forum not too long ago and I loved it. I learned so much from here. I dived mostly in the lakes around Bnaff National park and the water is pretty cold. I have to wear 7MM wetsuit with 7mm hood during summer months. My wife and I are thinking of taking up dry suit this summer. Do not have the gut to go ice diving with my two children just yet.
