what's a good dive site near Irvine CA (Orange County)? Any recommendations?

also, I'll be there on Oct. 5 - anyone available for a dive or two?

Check out this page: http://www.californiadiveboats.com/ . It lists a lot of the boats in California. You'd probably want to catch one out of Long Beach, San Pedro or Dana Point/Laguna Beach.

I'd love to meet you for a dive that day, but unfortunately I'll have to work.

Actually I'll be in Newport Beach area.

any specific recommendations for good dive spot - either shore or boat?

There's a good deal of shore diving near Newport. Laguna Beach (10 minute drive) offers sites with fairly easy access and a variety of structure and things to see. This time of year can be a bit crowded but its worth it.

Take a look at the website for Laguna Sea Sports, a local dive shop, which has information on the area.

I was also going to recommend Laguna Beach. There are several excellent dive sites and the beach is diver-friendly. There are some steep walkways to climb to/from the sand, but they are paved, with showers at the base of the walkways.
