Buying wetsuit for Scuba newbie

I am new to diving and plan on diving off of the Massachusetts Coast. I take a certification course in May and hope to be diving by June.
I have only a mask and snorkel and want to get a wetsuit. I am looking at a 7mm full suit and 7mm hooded vest combo. Is 14mm on the torso going to be too much for New England diving? If it is what are good alternatives?

Can you fill in a more specific location? If you are in ME, you would have much different weather and water temps than CT.

Likely in the Cape Ann, Gloucester, Massachusetts area May thru September. That's the North Shore of Boston.
Thanks

I'm not sure about temps, but you may want to look at going dry. I dove with 10mm at the core and felt awfully "marshmallow-y". It was doable, but took some getting used to.

Our water temps at depth are usually in the 60's at best..I'll be in a 7mm FJ until I can go dry

I always wore a 7mm farmer john when I dove off Cape Ann or S. Maine, generally May-Oct. Don't think it's too much in the water though you might be able to get away with a bit less. Kinda sucks before you get in the water (heat and the michelin-man thing) but if you're diving wet here that's pretty much how it goes.

If I lived in your part of the country, I would seriously consider a dry suit.
I'll sometimes wear my 7 mil in the early months and I hate it
