Do they make wet suits for short fat guys?
If they didn't, I would have never started diving! I was 5'6" and about 220 lbs (now around 150 lbs) when I started. As others have mentioned, the route I went with was to get a custom suit. Many manufacturers offer custom sizing for little extra money. Other options include Henderson or Mares stretch suits, or the Pinnacle line of suits which tends to fit some of my bigger friends well. The new Mares Fusion drysuit is another option, as the compression-fit of the drysuit allows the stock sizes to fit a large range of people comfortably. It also fits snug to the body like a wetsuit. Just my two cents...Hope it helps. Cheers! |

Another Opinion....
I recently purchased a Henderson H2 3 mil full suit from Scubatoys. I then shipped it off to Terrapinwetsuits.com in New Braunfels, Texas. Chris is a pleasure to work with. She took length out of the legs, both above and below the knee and shortened the arms. I had knee pads not shin guards. She saved the large HENDERSON logo on the thigh. I could not be happier with her workmanship. I had just over a $100 in tailoring and shipping which was 2nd day air as I had a trip deadline. She charges by the minute and I thought was fair for the service she rendered. She has done 2 suits for me and I'll use her again. I had asked around Central Ohio and no one knew of anyone that did wetsuit tailoring or repair. Once again, turned to the internet. I am 5' 9", 265 lbs. Large thru the shoulders, chest and belly. The H2 in 2XL with the legs and arms shortened and I'm good to go!!! Admittedly, not cheap, but I learned early in life, you get what you pay for. I couldn't ask for a nicer wetsuit.
PS, Chris also does custom built wetsuits to your measurements. Website shows all kinds of colors, creatures, etc.
