Cargo Pockets
So I am thinking I might want to add a cargo pocket or two the thighs of on my wetsuit. Any one do this> where did you get the pockets from? Did you sew them on, use Aqua seal or a combo of both? Just looking for a convenient place to stash a few small items that I do not want to keep in my BCD
Cheers, BTD |

I am thinking I will stay away from Velcro. I worked wonders keeping astronauts from flying into walls but not so good for divers (and paddlers for that matter) trying to access UW. I am hoping to find a pare of nylon cargo shorts with the pocket and zipper already in place and just cut it off the shorts in one complete piece. It would then be easy to aqua seal and sew on I think. I am using a Neosport 5/7 that I got as a pro deal when I was a rafting guide so if I mess it up I am not to worried (I can always tell the wife it got shredded by Zebra muscles in the lake and get a new one!

My drysuit pockets both have velcro, and it works well enough. In fact, the ones I use are really good collapasible bellows pockets with drains and grommets for adding a loop you can clip the contents to. They're only $30 from 5th Dimension.
When I glued mine to my drysuit, I pre-treated the area of the suit where I wanted the pocket with Cotol-240 urethane accelerator, and then applied a good even coat of Aquaseal to both the pocket and suit, allowing both to set up a bit before sticking them together. I put the suit on a board, and put another board with a cinder block on top of the pocket to "clamp" it while it dried overnight. ![]() My drysuit is trilaminate, but since Aquaseal is a neoprene cement, I suspect it'll work even better on a wetsuit. Alot of people buy X-shorts to put over wet suits or cut the pockets off and glue to wet suits. Scuba diving X-Shorts w/ cargo pockets for acc. XLarge - eBay (item 170217562139 end time Sep-05-08 11:03:51 PDT)
OR you could buy these and save some money Dive Rite Waist Deep Bellows Pocket, Drysuits-Drysuit Accessories, Dive Rite, Dive Rite Waist Deep Bellows Pocket this is much easier than trying to glue nylon pockets.

X-shorts work well, and you can wear them over any suit so you don't have to move your stuff to different pockets when you're changing suits.

If I am not mistaken, there was another thread about putting pockets on a wetsuit. It could have been on the other forum. It talked about putting the wet suit on placing the pocket where you wantedi it and using calk to make and outline of the pocket. Next placed cardboard in the leg to stretch the wetsuit so the outline was again the size of the pocket. Next, the cement was used on the wetsuit a couple of times becasue it gets absorbed into the wetsuit. Then cement was placed on the wetsuit and pocket. A roller was used to help seal the pocket to the wetsuit.

Get in touch with Chris at Terrapin wetsuits, she does custom work plus alterations, zippers, pockets, etc. I got leg zips and thigh pockets put on my Farmer John, and had some alteration done to my wife's 5 ml.
