Sizing question... need some quick help

Hi all.

I just received my new Henderson Thermoprene 5mm today, but I'm concerned.

I didn't have the money to get it until this week, and had to order it on Tuesday to get here by Saturday. I have about 5 dives scheduled this weekend for Saturday and Sunday.

When I spoke to the guy on the phone, he recommended going with an XL over an XXL because it would be best to err in favor of tightness so it fills its purpose in keeping ya warm. Made perfect sense to me. However, I received an XXL.

It fits GREAT except at the top of my chest and upper back, just under my chin.

I'm afraid to go to an XL because everything else was snug and as it should be on this suit, except that one area. And my torso is long, so there's no slack I can pull up to kind of make it tighter in that area, too. I'm worried I'll get cold there, but I have no way to tell except to try it, but then I won't be able to exchange after its been used.

Any thoughts? I'm corn-fused and a bit troubled! If I do need to send it back, I can rent a suit, I'd just rather not if I don't have to because... well... that's the reason I bought this one.

In hindsight, I should have bought both and returned the one that didn't fit, but hindsight is 20/20. I thought about calling early in the morning and trying to get one overnighted, but A) That's expensive and B) I don't think it would get here by Saturday morning seeing as how I have to be ready to dive at about 8:00 AM.

What do you all think?

Brandon

Well... I just went ahead and rented one for this weekend and ordered a size smaller too. I'll just return the one that doesn't fit as well.

It may turn out that an XL is the perfect size... we'll see!

Don't be in a rush to buy a wetsuit. Rent a suit until you find one that really fits. Not every brand will have a size that fits you properly - regardless of what the manufacturer's sizing chart says.

Thanks bubbletrubble. That makes sense but the problem is that I will spend more renting between now and AOW check out time (mid-October) than I would on just buying a suit... so owning a suit is definitely better than renting in this case, and I honestly think the Henderson is going to fit great. Really, the one I have now is not bad, its just a bit big, so I think the XL will probably be perfect.

Thermoprene is kind of stretchy, so hopefully the XL will work for you. If it doesn't, step up to a Bare or Pinnacle, where there are quite a few choices in different sizes available, and they both make a quality product. ST can order any suit not shown on the ST web site, which is what I did for my Pinnacle 7mm suit. Remember that ST will match prices, so sometimes it pays to look around for a lower price, which is what I did for my 5mm suit.

Awesome... thanks Sansho.

I've got a feeling the XL is going to be a good fit. We'll see, though. Should know probably Tuesday or Wednesday.
