Dive skin for Cozumel?

I'll be taking my new 3mm wetsuit on or early-October dive trip to Cozumel. I'm wondering if I should also pick up a skin (only about $45). I've always used a rental 3mm (full or shorty) for tropical diving, but I'm thinking sometimes it'll be warm enough that I could probably just use a skin....easier to get on and off, more comfortable.

This makes sense, right?

Thx.

Ron

Makes sense to me. I think its your decision, though.

Just take into consideration whether you get cold easy or not and/or how warm the water is.

Have you thought about not even using a skin?

I used a skin in Cozumel in April a couple years back and was warm enough. The only problem I had is I got really bruised up getting in and out of the boat due to swells-that's one of the reasons I started wearing a suit with a little more padding/substance to it.

In Cozumel you can wear just a rash guard (or even a t-shirt) and be OK.
But if you are you going to Playa del Carmen and do the Cenotes, thatīs another story...

What is the rest of the story? Do you need more protection? Is a full suit recommended?

Cenotes are freshwater springs and they tend to be considerably colder than the water around playa and coz. I have never dove a cenote but we did snorkel one several years ago and i remember it being VERY chilly in just board shorts.

Actually is a "different" story... as said, is fresh water (boyancy changes), quite cold (need a full wet suit), dark (need light). Normally they rent a full wet suit and itīs good enough.

Obviously, you need a guide in there, becouse itīs not just a hole with cold fresh water, but also caverns and caves. Really interesting diving, cristal clear water, almost no animals, passages, holes...

You can describe cenotes as a big hole of water in middle of forest; some of them have exits to sea, so you can find water and salt water mixed, as also big "termoclines" (is that the word in english?) ; some of them are connected, so you enter in one spot and exit in another spot. Advanced Diving strongly recommended. Some places Cave diving needed.

I get cold easily and wore a skin in Coz and was fine. I wouldn't recommend just a rash guard though to help keep you from the "ouchy" things. (That's what my 4 year old says.)
