proper storage of 3mm wetsuit
Hello all. I just bought a 3 mm shortie wetsuit and was wondering what the best way to store it the 6 months or so between being able to use it?
Can I leave it folded hanging inside a mesh dive bag or do I need to leave it on a hanger in a closet somewhere. Thanks Joe |

hanging is generally better, leaving neoprene folded will eventually result in permanent creases which will be a thin/cold spot. Though in a 3mm shorty this is probably not a really crucial thing to your comfort, as it might be in something like a full 7mm suit.
You could probably roll up your 3mm shorty in a way that it's not actually creased and put it in your bag, as long as you're not jamming it in there with a pile of stuff on top. |

I've got my 3 and 7mms hanging in my closet on wide brimmed plastic suit hangers. I picked up a pack of 3 at wally world for under 5 bucks. They make surprisingly good wetsuit hangers. I did used to leave my 3mm laying flat, but with the addition of the 7, and the lack of closet space at school, hanging was a better option. You could probably roll it and keep it in a mesh bag though if you really only intend on using it in warm locations and aren't worried about creases. Rolling shouldn't give you too many of those anyways

If you don't want to spend $8 bucks on one of those expensive "Wetsuit hangers"... like this.
![]() then you can always use a large diameter walmart hanger, especially for lighter suits, such as a shortie. For thicker suits that are heavier I try to use a bigger hanger so that it doesn't leave "hanger marks". Putting some "Insula-tube" around the hanger helps with that also. You can pick it up at Lowes/HomeDepot for cheap. this stuff.... put it on with the sticky back that comes with it or use a couple of tie wraps if needed. ![]() |
