Orthotics in dive boots?

Anybody use orthotics in their dive boots? I've got plantar fascitis and cannot go without good foot support for even a few steps when on the shore, boat, etc. I'd like to slip my Superfeet orthotics in my booties, but no idea how they would hold up getting totally immersed for extended periods of time. Any ideas?

I use custom orthotics due to an ankle injury. The are hard plastic with a neoprene like padding. I just rinse them well and let them dry. (Usually just used for one dive.) I also have a pair of just hard plastic like orthotics that I use. These seem to hold up better to a full day of wet feet when diving. You might talk to your doc and see if you can get a hard plastic pair. When I use these I wear a very thin pair of nylon socks, helps with blisters. Good luck.

Thanks for the tip. I also found that Superfeet makes a hard plastic orthotic "Superfeet 3/4 length mens easy fit and comfort" - they are designed for dress shoes but since they are entirely hard plastic I'm figuring they should work for diving as well. I'm going to order these, they are $20 online so not much to lose.

Just got back from diving in St Croix - the superfeet orthotics worked great, fit was good in my Tusa mid-height boots and were totally worth the $20. I was shore diving and had a short walk from the dive shop to the shore and pretty sure if I didn't have the orthotics there's no way I could have done the walk back and forth relatively comfortably.

I've found writing the alphabet with your big toe 3-5x to be of great benefit before getting out of bed.

If I had time to write with my feet in the morning......well let's just say I don't..though Cheddarguy thinks I'm weird 'cuz I pick stuff up with my toes all the time...I do get the stretching thing though, it helps a ton!!!!...just that some mornings you aren't awake enough to remember until you take your 1st step.....So the inserts worked great?

I've been thinking about the question at hand. Most dive boots I've ever had are flexible and most orthotics are somewhat rigid. going over any particularly rough surface may break the form and not only is it now useless, but would be more than a little painful. If there were a flexible form available, I would recommend one for a pair of dive boots.

Just get a plantar fasciotomy and get it over with. It takes like 10 minutes. Heals in a couple weeks.
