Looking for a UV only/Carib hood to prevent sunburn
Any suggestions on a lightweight hat/hood that would be similar to a skinsuit in terms of just for sunburn protection? I have very fair skin that never tans - I have a UV skinsuit that works great but I need protection for my ears, back of neck and the top of my head as well.
I did see a Henderson 0.5mm Microprene Tropic Cap on scuba.com - anyone have one of these or have something similar that they can recommend? Issue with this item is it appears it wouldn't cover the back of the neck. |

Ironically, I was just looking for something similar. For true protection, you need an actual bib to tuck into the wetsuit or dive skin, which eliminates most of the little swim hoods that are more readily available.
I've only found a couple of options, two on scuba.com and one elsewhere. Henderson has a lycra hood that's cheap at $12: http://www.scuba.com/scuba-gear-28/0...ycra-Hood.html Henderson also has a 1/2 mm neoprene hood that's less cheap at $35: http://www.scuba.com/scuba-gear-28/0...rene-Hood.html And "Dive Goddess" makes a lycra hood in crazy colors that's $30: Dive Skin Hoods I haven't found anything else so far, though, and none of these seems like it would work well for my wife due to size issues (very tiny head), so I'd be curious what others come with as well. Note that ScubaToys carries Henderson and so they could probably get the Henderson hoods at the same or better cost, plus you wouldn't have to deal with scuba.com. |

I usually wear a cap but got a lycra hood (don't recall the brand) mostly to protect my neck at night when there are jellies out. It's nice that it doesn't feel like I'm wearing it. But I don't like it because the slippery fabric won't stay put. It doesn't want to stay tucked in and generally likes to twist or shift around and meanwhile hair sneaks out. (I've worn the cap over the hood and it cuts down on the shifting, but talk about dorky!) If I was buying another I'd probably try that 1/2mm neoprene.
