Own. Nothing is worse than a poor fitting rental suit. Forget the fact that others have worn it and most likely peed in it (pee washes out) for a moment. If you're wearing a wetsuit its for warmth. Rental wetsuits take a lot of abuse. Lots of time in the chlorinated pools during training, a lot of pulling on and off, and lots of time being used. They're probably not going to be as form fitting as if you owned your own and since you never know what you're going to get (old vs. newer) you never know if it's going to keep you as warm as it can, and imho, that's the true purpose of a wet suit.

But yeah, in all seriousness, the shop open for a rental thingie bugs me. One of the reasons I'm going BCD before I go reg... finding a reg that fits and works for the dive for rental is going to be a lot easier than finding a BCD/Wetsuit that fits. How bad will it suck the first time you miss out on a dive because it is 70F on the surface, and cold as hell in the water, and you don't have a suit to get into ![]() |
