Hard and Tall or Short and Soft?

What kind of bootie is most preferable for general scuba diving? And why would someone want a tall bootie?

Tall booties will give some overlap with your wetsuit, which will help you stay warm. For tropical diving short boots will usally be ok. A hard soled boot is sometimes prefered by people who do a lot of shore diving. If you have to walk any distance over rough terrain to get to the dive site then hard sole boots are nice to have. Some people will also choose hard soled boots to fit fins with large foot pockets. No one type of bootie is prefered over the other, you just need to pick a pair that suits your needs and fits well with your fins.

I like tall boots to insure no bare skin with a hard sole on the to handle the rocks.

It's not unheard of to have several pairs...being uncomfortable on a dive is not worth the $25 for a second pair of booties.

My wife and I went to our first LDS so she could try on her
fins/booties. The short ones were very comfortable, but it was a
different story when she put them on with fins. The top of the
fin rubbed on the top of her foot right where the top of the bootie
ended. She tried on the tall ones and that area was now covered,
problem solved, no discomfort. "She's just a tall boot girl," the lady helping us said. [img]smileys/smiley4.gif[/img]

taller booties just give you a little over lap on your wetsuit and a must have is the hard sole i started off with dive socks big mistake walking on rocks not fun without a sole

With hard sole bootsI get no foot cramps and my fins fit a little better.

I wear one pair of boots, summer and winter.. 6mm XS scuba - lovely to walk in.. comfortable and they are matched to my fins with springs..own a backup pair.
