Private labels/no name brands

What do you think about buying wetsuits from a private person?

They are new but the person in question runs a business where he has a manufacturer make scuba products with his name on them and then sales them. I can't find any regular wetsuits in the measurements needed for my DH except for at this dude's shop. Is there any reason not to try them out?

Just make sure to look at how well the seams are sewn and glued... one thing you probably won't get is form fitting like many wetsuits nowadays are (pre-curved arms, expansion panels in the right places, etc)...

Unfortunately, the problem with things like that is that you don't have a user base to question and find out how well it really works... Come on here and ask about any real brand of wetsuit and you'll find 50-100 people that can tell you what the like and dislike... There is no user base for those unfortunately...

what kind of dimensions are we talking about??? I've always found a wetsuit for someone...

He needs a 4x. I've seen places that make them but the prices are outrageous!

I got mine from ST for 99.95 and would like to spend similar on his. This is mine: Elasta Stretch 3MM Womens Wetsuit reviews and discounts, ScubaToys

This is the one I am considering for him: TommyDSports.com | FULL LENGTH MEN'S 5MM WET SUIT

I have bought a couple wetsuits from TommyDSports. I have a 7mm full suit and a 3mm shorty. When I got the shorty I wasn't sure of the size, so they sent me 2 charged me for 1 and I returned the one that didn't fit. So far they are holding up to my diving (mostly used the 3mm).

BTW: I was 6'5" 380# when I bought the 7mm, and now 340# they have up to 6x.

Awesome. I was hoping someone else had tried them. So they seem to be made quite okay? I'm considering a 3mm and 5mm from him.

I've never tried them, but I've read quite a few negative reports on TommyD gear. You may want to do some more digging before plunking down, although frankly, with a price that low, perhaps just take what you can get.

If I was going for a custom suit, however, I'd be looking at LiquidFit, AquaFlite, WetWear, Terrapin or any of the bigger names in custom wetsuits. Those suits will last.

Compudude, for $60-$80 these are pretty good.

Not really looking for a custom suit just one that will fit and get the job done.

We've been to his warehouse once but didn't take a look at the wetsuits. I did stumble upon a regulator that I wouldn't want.

I haven't heard anything at all about his gear but his e-bay ratings are solid. If that counts for anything....

For prices that cheap, I wouldn't complain, agreed.
