I have a pair as well. Can't wait to use them. (I bought mine from a friend.)

Price out two well-made add-on pockets, plus a pair of shorts, and then pay someone to professionally sew them together. See if you can do better. (Not likely, considering I've seen good add-on pockets sold for $90 EACH.)

They are well manufactured....and it has also to do with demand.

If those pockets were as good quality as the ones they use on the NEW x-shorts, you should go for it! The XS scuba pockets you are probably talking about are darn good, but they don't have one of the features I like on the x-shorts, namely velcro down the sides of the pocket so the pocket can be squished down and stays totally flat if you don't have anything in it (or have nothing but wetnotes in one side, for instance.

But you're looking at $42 for two pockets, now you have to find appropriate shorts to put them on (let's be charitable and say $10, but probably more like 15-20), and you're up to $52. Assuming you can find a seamstress who will do a good job of aquasealing (oops, $8 more) and stitching the pockets on for under $20, yes, you can beat the price.

But for that much hassle, I'll pay a little more than they're worth and just buy them ready to wear.

The decostop ones are the last remaining pairs of the original X-Shorts which stopped being made a couple years ago. They aren't as well made as the new ones from what I've heard from those who bought both.

I have the originals, and they're good enough for me, for now. Eventually, if they fall apart, I'll pony up for the better ones.
