Smelly Wetsuit

I was lucky enough to pick up my new suit over the weekend (7mil Cressi-Sub Condor Semi Dry), which I used on Saturday.

I washed it in freshwater after the dive and dried it out, it is now in the spare room and man does it stink like rubber in there.

Is this rubber smell going to go away after a few more uses?

Jas.

That odor will diminish over time. If you dive fresh water it will take on an odor different than that of salt water. In the end it will smell completely different once you start peeing in it.

I rinse mine in freshwater asap, do a second rinse when I get home then soak it in the tub overnight. I have never really noticed a bad smell from my suits doing this.

The smell of wet neoprene will diminish somewhat, but never entirely go away. I don't think it smells bad, personally, just "hey, I smell wet neoprene".

I rinse mine once with some mild detergent, then rinse it in plain water, then soak it in sink the stink. It doesn't smell much like neoprene anymore, more like "bluegill on a summer morning". Others just call it "scuba funk". Interestingly enough, we have two bathrooms at home. Since I started hanging all my neos up in one of them, it became 'my' bathroom. Maybe I should be posting this on the Man Forum.

Will shampoo damage the wetsuit or any of its components?

No, use Baby Shampoo is you are that worried. Washing in Lysol is a good way to help remove odor as well.
