how to poke holes in my Henderson hood?

I bought a new Henderson hyperstretch hooded vest and I LOVE it,
however I do tend to get air trapped inside it.

The little vent-thing at the top doesn't seem to let the air out (at least not in less than 30' of water) very well, so I will take any suggestions you have about how to go about poking some holes in it to let the air escape.

What do you use to make the holes? How big and how many?

Thanks (in advance) for the help!

I take a pocket knife and VERY CAREFULLY cut two to three holes in the top.

Take a Nail, get it hot
Push Nail through hood.

Nail = round Hole. Heat = Sealed round hole
Hard for the round hole to get bigger, run, etc when heated nail pushed through it.

While I don't have a Henderson, both my Bare and Mares hoods have a two piece vent: a hole in the top of the external hood and an inner-liner with a hole or two which are off-set to the external vent hole.

With both the air trap problem was with the inner liner holes not being in the correct place for me. Just put a few holes in the inner liner where they need to be (making the holes off-set as well to the external vent hole).

The hot hail to melt the holes in the inner liner works well.

The hot nail gets my vote. All that you need is a lighter, 6p nail, and a pair of pliers (remember the nail is hot ;-).

very hot nail, like red hot worked very well for me. if its not hot enough the rubber will just stick to the nail and be more trouble than you want

My first hood had no hole and I didn't really think about it until I was at the shop about to board the boat. I asked for a thick Phillips head screwdriver and a hammer - one bang did the job. Years on, no complaints.

Why don't you just pull the sides away from your face to let the air out once you submerge?

Many times, depending on the fit, your position, etc... tiny bubbles work their way into the hood from your exhausted air during the dive. I believe it is this air they are trying to get rid of. That is why many of the manufacturers do put a vent in the top - but depending on your head, hair, etc.. sometimes it doesn't seem to get rid of it all.

Nothing better than that cone head look on a diver with a hood full of air!
