my buddy wears his inside his wetsuit....

What do you all do?

If it is just a hooded vest it is supposed to go on the inside. If it is a hooded shortie then it goes on the outside. Only beacause with the vest there will be a lot of water circulation between your wetsuit and the vest. Since the shortie has legs the water circulation is less.

Now there is not a hard and fast rule on this, this is just the way I see most people diving.

If it works for you with it on the outside there is nothing wrong with it..

If it's so cold I need to layer a wetsuit, I dive dry instead!

Most of the people I see with a hooded vest wear it inside the wet suit. I'm like Compudude, if I need to layer I will go dry.

I wear mine on the inside. I think that there would be too much potential for heat to be lost.

I wish that I did not have to layer all that neoprene. I want to dive dry...

I used to use a hooded vest under the wetsuit when layering (prior to drysuit). One thing that bugged me was air getting trapped where the hood met the vest, but I can't imagine trying to get that thing over a wetsuit...
