Shorty vs Regular

Do you guys prefer a shorty or full suit when doing tropical places or FL?

Thinking of the 3mm shorty or 3mm(most of suit)/2mm(arm/leg) full suit

I also dive a 3mm in the winter, and a skin or shorts/rashguard in the summer. Been looking into a shorty, 'cause there are a few thermoclines around here that have gotten to me, but still not sure. The skin is mostly to ward of jellies, as there is a large population hee in midsummer.

Full skin suit. No need for warmth, but as Nitro mentioned... stings/bites/cuts.

Another vote for full. In the tropics I use a 1mm Henderson Fullsuit. My brother uses a 2mm shorty. Last year we went to Bonaire and one day he got some nasty sting/rash under his armpit. I think something got in under his sleeve. I don't think that would have happened with a fullsuit.

PS -- you could get both. I have both, and if I get cold in the 1mm fullsuit, I put the 2mm shorty over it.

Oh, and the 3/2 fullsuit you're looking at is warmer than that shorty. For a comparable fullsuit, a 1mm would be along the same warmth.

I wear a 3mil farmer john in winter (=6mil covering core of body). In the summer I wear a 3/2 full suit. I spearfish and catch spiny lobsters. The extra protection of the full suit has saved me multiple times (fire coral bristle worms, jellies, stonefish, etc.). On one recent trip I came up from the dive and noticed that my forearm was sore. when I felt it I noticed a lump under the wetsuit. After pulling off the suit I found a 1/2" long dorsal spine from a grouper sticking in my arm. The full suit won't stop everything. I got the last laugh. I ate that grouper the next night.
