Need some help with a cold natured diver.

Here's the problem, my wife gets cold real easy, she wore a 5mm this weekend, and while she liked the warmth, she didn't like how hard it was to move in, and how hard it was to put on, plus when we go somewhere tropical she won't want a suit that thick. So my idea was to get her a 3mil full, and a 3mil shorty, and layer them. Or should i just get her a vest or a core warmer, OR some type of 1mil thermal skin. Any ideas would be great.

well we're diving in a good ol' lake. I'm just peachy in a 3mm so far, but she gets cold and starts chattering, and that's bad. So i'm tying to figure out what would be better. I'm thinking a core warmer or a thermal skin of some sort.

Or i may just have to buy her a 5mm, and get one of the stretchy kind, but i've been told if it's a 5mm stretcy kind that it's really more like a 3.

so she is cold in a 3mm in the lake and cozy in a 5mm? So, what is the temp of the good 'ol lake - hard to compare without knowing that.

And did the 3 fit her as well as the 5?

Does she wear a hood? That could make a very big difference.
