Any recommendations for a hooded vest to go over or under a 7mm fullsuit for 45-60 degree temp water.

I have the XS suba pyrostretch hooded vest that I wear under my 7mm wetsuit and I love it. It fits nice and keeps that cold water off my bald head...

My wife has an IST 3mm from ST. Titanium lined and side zipper for easy don/doff. I think they are like $65.00, she has been pleased with it....

What about a Merino-lined Pinnacle? The wool lining will give you extra warmth, and dries quick. It should work better if you wear it under your wetsuit though.

I've heard it both ways. Under & over. I'm thinking of getting a hooded vest also, but I don't think I can go back to anything other than a hyperstretch type material for the hood. Once I put on one of those, I threw my old hood away. I'm going to look at the Pinnacle vest on my next trip to ST.

I have a merino-lined full-suit, and the wool lining is really comfy. I tried on a rubber titanium one in the shop it was a pain to put on and doff. The merino made a huge difference and I think the wool actually "keeps in" the warmth more effectively as well, that's why I suggested wearing inside so that it's close to the body (for the comfort as well), instead of over the suit. But I guess there's no right or wrong, at the end of the day, it's really up to you.

I had the oppertunity to dive in the Merino Pinnacle found it to be very comfortable, and it has ended up on my shopping list if I don't decide to go with a drysuit.

I would say a 3mm vest would probably be sufficient. Don't forget to add weight to your belt/rig though since the extra neoprene will make you that much more bouyant.

I ended up with a 5/7 hooded step-in. I can theoretically use it as a shorty, which I will probably never do. I haven't dived with it yet. I seems quite comfy on land, and I don't feel like I am choking when I have it on.
