Make sure you wet your hair and push it straight back off your face. Then place the mask on your face and pull strap up and over! This will not only relieve the tangles, but makes sure you get a good (hairless)seal on the mask. My hair isn't only long (by times) but curly as well.

too hot natured to put on a wetsuit most of the time, so i dont see me putting on head gear.
i tried the doo rag but couldnt keep it on...

and actually, my biggest pain was the boat ride back whipping the wet, salty hair into such a tangled mess that i would miss out on supper trying to get it untangled.

okay, not really.. anyone who's met me knows i've not missed many suppers

but i finally just cut it all off... been thinking of letting it grow but the tangles.. ugh.. so, i'll be watching to see the magic tricks others use.

I do the french braid thing, but it doesn't help much, so now I just do a pony tail and then either wear a beanie or one of these: SCAP Head Wrap, Boots Hoods Gloves, Deep6 , SCAP Head Wrap

For the boat ride back, I ALWAYS have a ball cap handy...works two-fold...keeping my hair in some control and keeping the sun off my nose!

Here is a link in case anyone is interested.
Highfeedback's Squid Cap is for scuba diving, water sports & paintball!
Thanks for the link .... was always curious about these, but most places that carry them were pretty pricey. These are a great deal, so I ordered 2! I've used Dee Rags for a couple of years and they work pretty well, but these have the added bonus of keeping the head warm a bit, so I'm giving them a shot.
Just make sure you pull the mask strap over the cap. It keeps it from floating up.

I usually do a French braid. I also take along a bottle of the stuff I used as a kid, No More Tangles. It works well but you can make your own by diluting any brand of conditioner with water and putting it in a spray bottle.

You list you location only as "United States" but I think FL and HI are the only US locations where you might not be using a hood. I'd think the hood would keep the hair in place.

I have a hood, but hate the thing. The water has to be cold, cold cold before I'll put on that sucker! Felt the same way when I tried a beanie on - could stand it on my head. That's why I try all the other hair control options ...

You don't have to have a hood for summer lake diving in a lot of places--Texas for sure. I'll wear mine sometimes though just to keep the fish away from my ears.

thats just a creepy feeling...(fish swimming in and out of your ears.) I used to swim with a gal who had really long hair (to the small of her back) and she used a silicone swim cap by speedo. to this day I have no idea how she ever got all that hair into that cap without looking like she had a 60s style beehive.

Yeah .. I've worn the hood a few times in the lake late in the year, but mostly stick with the Dee Rags 99% of the time. Never had the fish go for my ears yet. Fingers, and a few nipped fins, but that's about it.
