Tying in your line/reel

Im interested to hear how those that wreck dive , tie their line off to the anchor/upline, i know here in New england some use a carabiner and just clip it on and away they go, makes unclipping with thick cold water gloves on a lot easier, so what do you use? do you loop the reel through a hoop so it cant be detached? again great for warmer waters but Id never get the loop undone in thick gloves here

I use a standard wreck/cave tie off (reel through the loop) and then a second tie in a bit further away from the up line. I have no real issues with 7mil 5-finger gloves and un-securing the line. I am not a fan of carabiners for this purpose, just like I don't prefer them on Jon-lines either. JMO

I agree with looping over the reel. You can always tie a pull string to the loop to help loosen the loop, or attach a snap to prevent it from drawing up too tight in the first place.

thats a good point about the string or a snap to prevent it from tightening up

Putting the reel through a loop allows you to attach the line to just about anything.

I put the reel through the loop, then make a second wrap around my anchor point. After that, I look for a second tie off a couple of feet away and double wrap that one too.

I preffer a jon line. sometimes the line gets crowded or if seas are kicking I can back away and remain neutral. I do use a quick release caribiner. I clip it back on to my line. It works for me. I made my own which fit in a "gerber" multi-purpose velcroed pouch.
