NC. beach dive

I have a question, has any one did any beach diving in the outer banks and if so, can you drive on the beach in these areas? I would like to drive to the location of the dive site i'm disabled not lazy.

I've never done a shore dive from the outer banks, but I was up that way a couple weeks ago, and there are sections of the beach that allow you to drive on it. There's quite a long stretch ( probably at least 15 miles ) that you can drive on. You got to have a 4x4.

I don't mean to be insensitive and you did not state the nature of your handicap, but shore diving through surf is some of the most physically demanding of all diving. If you cannot lug your gear from the parking lot to the site, you probably should not do the dive. The closest I ever got to drowning was diving the Kyzickes from the shore at Nags Head. During certain months you can drive a 4x4 almost up to the water at that site.

Boat diving is much easier.

The Triangle Wrecks are in Kill Devil Hills...it is a decent surface swim...100yds or so, but you can park near the site. Be careful though, currents can be a beast there...well in NC they can be a beast everywhere. Make sure you are comfortable reading longshore currnets and surf. Also, like stated before, make sure your disability won't endanger you for this dive.

I'm curious as to what the disability is too.

I do agree, if it's a lower (walking) disability, beach diving will not be for you. Go do some boat dive if at all possible. Easier to back roll into the water then the surf and current back rolling you out to sea.

Many boats will work to accommodate you if you're upfront about your situation. I would agree with others that a boat trip would be less strenuous than a beach dive, particularly if you can put on and remove your gear it in the water.
