Shore Dive in Milwaukee

I was just wondering if anyone here has dove the Appomattox off the coast of Milwaukee? If so what kind of conditions are usually there, as far as Vis and Temp? Is it an easy shore dive, I mean is it easy to surface swim out to it?

How about any other shore dives in the Milwaukee area? Myself and a couple of friends are heading up there in July and are thinking about either trying to charter the boat for Fri evening too, or just trying to get in a shore dive.

Any info on any shore dives realitivly close to Milwaukee would be greatly appreciated...

Thanks
Phil

If you get a good bright summer day the visibility will be pretty good. I have gone sailing on the lake and have seen 20+ feet down to the bottom no problem. Water shouldnt be too cold either, at least on the surface

I will have a Drysuit with me but I was curious if I could get by with a 3mm or not for this dive if we decide to do it, so I do not have to mess with the DS.

It looks like the boat is available anyway, now we just have to see if we can get enough people to take it out...

Thanks
Phil

I don't think the 3mm will be nearly enough! I was down @ 30ft last in Lake MI in a 7mm and below that it was pretty FRESH!! Rent a 7 and a hood and you'll be much happier; IMHO

Well I have a 7mm and hooded vest, but I will be using my Drysuit for diving on the boat on Sat and Sun, and was just hoping to be able to get away with putting on a 3mm unsead of having to break out the DS on Fri. I think we are going to be going out on the boat on Fri now anyway. We have chartered the Len-Der for Sat and Sun, right now she is available for Fri, we just have to put together 6 people, which I think we will...

What was the temp at 30ft???

Thanks
Phil

I don't have my log handy but if memory serves at 30' it was around 68 +/-.

You'll have a lot of fun. The vis will surprise you as long as all the runoff from the rains doesn't reach out to your wrecks. Let us know how your dives were when you get done. The wife got me a certificate to go dive with Capt. Jim of Windy City in Chicago for Father's Day! I just have to pick a date! I figure somewhere around mid-late July. As soon as I get dates I'll post to see if anyone here might want to get together.

68 is still 3mm water for me

I will certainly post a report when we get back... I am excited about it... I cannot wait to get up there... I am just REALLY hoping for good weather and calm water...

Thanks again for the info...

Phil

I am not 100% sure if we are taking the charter out that day but I am about 98%.

If you want to come up for Fri come on. I was going to check with Wetnurse too to see if he wanted to join in...
