Thumbs up Guy Harvey

Heading out Sunday to dive the Guy Harvey. Never been on her and looking forward to this first time experience. She sits around 150ft. Hopefully the weather will hold and the ocean will comply for an outstanding dive. report to follow. Florida Scuba Wreck Diving - Boca Raton, Florida

NO PICTURES for this one guys. seas weren't bad but the current was ripping!! We did have a down line and it took about 5-6 minutes to pull to the wreck. vis was poor.(I seen worse but it was pretty bad!) Did I mention the current??? mask ripping off your face, regulator purging (this was a new one on me) current! Stayed on the leeward side of the wreck and did some very light snooping around the fantail down to the sand back up into one of the passage ways and out a hole just under the wheel house. (of course I'm not really sure as the vis was less than good) The best part was all we learned about ourselves and in dealing with things we don't have control over.

Let me if I might fill in the missing pieces--
Pretty awesome dive considering ---

Anyone ever have 200lbs dropped on their head??
Nooo??

Ok, now on with the dive profile then

Awesome Dive!!!
Current was in the 2+ knot range.. People regs free flowing, stage bottels free flowing (I have to find out why some of these guys don't charge the stage, then shut it off) Must just be a cave diver thing??

Rain, Rain, and Rain. Thunder, Lightning stikes everywhere (did Doc mention the captain of the boat told us to not hold onto anything that was metal) WHAT !!
At least the seas were 2ft or less.

Adam In the water - I wait a few until he disappears
Off the back I go ---
I've never had 250lbs dropped on my head before, I thought I took a tox hit at 3fsw at 1 min into the dive. I see stars after hearing this very familar sound -- you know the one -- where ya drop a tank on concrete and it make that pretty DINGGGG --
And then to top it off, this bozo now begins clawing at me, pulling on all my gear (some time during this episode he even manages to do a full sumersault in front of me) -- now back to the clawing / pulling on my gear etc... So after I pushed him off me for like the 3rd time he now thinks it's ok to grab my 7ft hose -- hmmm which I am breathing on) -- so we tell self " Hey self let's go into self rescue mode and punch bozo in the solarplex, maybe he'll get the hell off of me) Funny how that got his attention and he manages to get his ducks back in a row and we continue on down the line)

You have to picture this ----
30 mins bottom time at 150 gives us about 30+ mins of deco
-- kick-butt current --
Did I mention the Current ?? 2 + knots easy --
great wreck, lots of nice critters, pretty colors, etc etc etc
Couple good swim throughs too poke around in, without doing any real penatration ---
time to leave to hit our deco stop schedules we leave a little early due to current, gas management , etc...
Up the line we go, we're the last team off the wreck (we're supposed to remove the float ball line) Not my job, no freaking way in that current (That's what I pay those other people for hahahaah)

So up we go, 2 teams in front us already a team of 4 and a team of 3..
Did we mention that their float ball was about 100 years old and damn near deflated?? Never knew you could actually see through a float ball

So here we are, hanging on to this ascent line making our way slowly to the first deco stop at 70fsw. 1 min stop here, and gas switch ---- but there are 7 people still here at 70fsw holding up the ascent -- we had to be at least 2 mins behind them, so I'm thinking WTF are they still doing here.. (Adam and I are still at about 80 ft, so a little to early to go to our gas switch mode)
Me and Adam wait a moment or two.. I'm now watching a guy doing his gas switch to 50% 0/2. He's having an issue or 2 or 3 or 4 ---- as in the current is kicking his ass Free Flow Reg, Stage is in Free Flow also
So he finally gets switched to his 50%, and for some reason I still have not figured out, he begins to dump his air in the BC ---
Next thing I know, were at 110fsw and still going down -- and this bozo is still on 0/2 and dumping his BC:icon_super: --- 50% 0/2 at 110fsw hmmmm
(Guessing that 100 year old 1/2 deflated see through float ball has seen better days)

I motion to Adam to had back down to the junction of the what appeared to be another 1/2 inflated float ball
Which was in fact the float ball that was supposed to be on the surface --!!!
Team one and Team two had managed to drag the float ball down to 70fsw and they were out there hanging on the (what was supposed to be the tag line that floats on the water behind the boat))....

I look at Adam, I think he figures out by looking at my face I'm seeing this as a major cluster. I give the signal to shoot our lift bags and get the heck out of dodge before that line makes a rapid ascent to the surface. I can just see us blowing the surface like a missile when the yahoos on the other end finally get their sh%t together and deploy their lift bags. Not good when your on a 21/30 O/2 He mix... The whole "you must ascend slower when using helium comes to mind -- can you say BENT"" ---

Ohh did I mention that one of the members of team one, hooked his Jon line onto the sinking tag line, and those 3 members of team two for some reason decided to hang on his Jon line!! (You really have to hear his WTF story on this one) hahahhah I still bust a gut just thinking about it --- So you have 4 people hanging on some Jon line --

So here we are at the surface buoy which is now at about 100/110 ft (the bouy is a surface marker right??
Getting ready to blow bags...
Opps did I mention that the current sucked Adams lift bag right out of his hands! ?? Not a problem, I have two bags -- for situations just like this -- yea right... (one lift bag / one SMB)
I go to deploy my lifting device, I'm so proud of myself for getting it out, hooked up to the spool, changing from primary to octo -- opps, I let go of that damn line and now I'm being swept away from Adam at a high rate of speed...
So I tell self "Self no biggie, he'll catch me while I am doing the bag deploy"...
Never saw him again until we hit the surface
Read somewhere "Same Ocean, Same Buddy" something like that

Great dive though!!
Perfect dive on our stops.. Adam surfaced about 20 or so yards away.
Seems he found a line that was magically hanging in the ocean that was attached to someones reel -- (some one from team one had dropped their reel and it was attached to a lift bag ) go figure --
Our Run times were right on the money // within 1 min of each other..

Ohhh --
Did we mention the part where the Captain yells at us "" Hey stop hanging onto the metal on the boat, you want to get electicuted""....

Oh yea -- everyone fine, no injuries except for this BIG FREAKING knot on the back of my head..
Looking back on it, it's kind of funny. But one thing comes to mind.
It's not what you or your buddy does that can hurt you -- but some total bozo out of the blue. Still have not figured out why the hell he jumped on me... Hope his chest hurts where I punched him though

He was supposed to buy me dinner that evening, I'll leave for you guys to decide if he showed up or not
